Planning note: This guide concerns private charter travel for a medically stable passenger travelling to Sri Lanka for a scheduled appointment or treatment. ASM Charter does not currently accept dedicated MEDEVAC or air-ambulance bookings, supply a medical team, or assess whether a passenger is fit to fly. The passenger and treating clinician should agree on travel suitability before a charter enquiry.
How is travel to a Sri Lanka appointment different from MEDEVAC?
An ordinary charter for a medically stable passenger is distinct from an air-ambulance service. The treating clinician decides fitness to travel, and the aircraft operator must accept any equipment or assistance request. Confirm the receiving appointment, airport and ground handover before setting the schedule. ASM's stated service limits on this page continue to apply.

Plan the journey around confirmed care
Confirm the appointment, receiving facility, travel documents and any assistance needs before setting the flight schedule. A charter can offer greater flexibility over route and timing, but the proposed flight still depends on a suitable aircraft, operator acceptance, airport arrangements, permits and local operating conditions. Medical treatment and clinical outcomes are arranged separately with licensed healthcare providers.

Information ASM Charter needs
- Departure city, destination, preferred dates and appointment timing.
- Passenger count, mobility assistance, baggage and ground transfer requirements.
- Any oxygen, medical equipment or escort request, disclosed before quotation so the operator can assess its own approvals and policies.
- Passport and entry documentation requirements to verify with the relevant authorities.
Share sensitive health details only through an appropriate private channel with the relevant provider. ASM Charter can review ordinary passenger travel logistics; any medical services or specialist patient transport must be arranged with appropriately qualified providers.
Airport, entry and transfer planning
The most suitable airport depends on the receiving facility, available handling and passenger assistance, the proposed aircraft and the operating schedule. Airport access, slots, permissions and ground transport should be confirmed for the actual journey. Visa categories, eligibility and validity can change; obtain current instructions from Sri Lankan immigration or the relevant consulate rather than relying on an older travel article.
Confirm the ground handover and return plan
Give the transfer provider the receiving facility’s full address, the named contact and the assistance agreed for the passenger. Confirm the vehicle, pickup point, accompanying travellers and baggage capacity. Any clinical handover belongs to the healthcare providers; an airport transfer booking does not provide a medical team.
Keep the return flight provisional until the treating clinician has confirmed when travel is appropriate. Ask for the charter’s amendment and cancellation terms before payment, and identify who will update the operator if the appointment or discharge date changes. Disclose equipment dimensions and power requirements for operator assessment before selecting the aircraft.

Medical travel and specialist evacuation are different
A private charter for a medically stable traveller is not an air ambulance. A patient who needs continuous clinical care, dedicated medical equipment or specialist transfer requires an appropriately approved medical transport operator and clinical team. See our operational guide to medevac planning for general information; that guide does not indicate current booking availability.
For an ordinary passenger charter enquiry, visit ASM Charter or email charter@asm.aero. ASM’s flight support team can coordinate separate operational services for an operator where requested.
