Types of Private Jets: Passenger, Baggage and Route Selection

In How to Charter by ASM Editorial Team

Private jet categories help narrow a charter enquiry, but a category name does not confirm an aircraft for your flight. Start with the route, passengers, baggage and airports. The operating carrier assesses the actual aircraft and mission before confirmation.

Light jets

Light jets can be considered for smaller groups and shorter missions. Cabin layouts, baggage compartments and access differ by model and individual aircraft. Declare large suitcases, golf bags, skis and equipment before choosing an option. Published seats do not prove everyone’s baggage will fit.

Midsize and super-midsize jets

These categories provide options for longer sectors or groups needing more cabin and baggage space. Compare the actual seating arrangement, usable baggage capacity, lavatory and requested connectivity. Market category labels do not substitute for aircraft-specific specifications.

Large-cabin and long-range jets

These aircraft can suit larger groups or longer journeys, subject to their approved configuration and mission assessment. A long-range label does not guarantee nonstop operation. Payload, weather, routing, reserves and airport performance can require another aircraft or a technical stop.

Review Challenger 605 information as an option to discuss with ASM. Confirm the available aircraft, configuration and operating party for your dates. An example does not imply ASM owns every category.

Review airports before committing

The operator reviews runway performance, restrictions, weather and requirements for each sector. A constrained destination can change options even when nominal range looks sufficient. Give your preferred airport and final address; an alternative airport with an agreed transfer may be workable.

See the remote-airport guide for the checks needed early.

Define passenger and cabin requirements

State adults, children, infant arrangements, mobility needs and pet requests. Review boarding steps and cabin access for the traveller’s actual needs. Declare dietary requests and essential facilities before confirmation: catering and connectivity vary by aircraft.

Compare the complete charter offer

Compare totals for the same itinerary rather than unsupported hourly-rate tables. Check aircraft and operator, configuration, stops, airport arrangements, included costs, exclusions, validity and amendment terms. Ownership costs and membership programmes are separate decisions from an individual charter.

Prepare the selection brief

  • Route, dates and times with time zones.
  • Passenger numbers and assistance.
  • Baggage quantity, dimensions and equipment.
  • Preferred airport, final destination and transfers.
  • Essential cabin facilities and schedule flexibility.

Read the charter comparison or send a brief to ASM to review suitable available options.
