Which airport should you use for a private charter in Dubai?#

The right airport depends on where the passengers are travelling from or to, the requested departure time, aircraft availability, airport capacity and the wider itinerary.

The airport closest on a map may not always offer the most workable schedule.

The road-transfer times below are indicative planning ranges. Dubai and Sharjah traffic can change considerably by time of day, so the ground journey should be checked against the actual flight schedule.

Approved business-aviation providers support private movements at DXB and DWC. The assigned terminal, provider and service hours must be confirmed for each movement.

Sharjah is published as H24 for airport administration, customs, fuel, handling and security. Current slot, parking and handling acceptance must still be confirmed for the proposed movement.

Al Bateen is a dedicated business-aviation airport with H24 customs, fuel, handling and security. Abu Dhabi Airports describes it as operating 24/7 without slot restrictions, although the current UAE AIP includes active rehabilitation and airfield-work updates that should be checked for the proposed movement.

Dubai International Airport: DXB#

Dubai International Airport is generally the most convenient airport for Downtown Dubai, DIFC, Business Bay, Deira and nearby central districts.

Its location can reduce the road journey, but DXB is also a heavily coordinated international hub. The requested arrival or departure time must fit the confirmed airport slot, parking and business-aviation handling arrangements.

DXB may make sense when:

• Passengers are travelling to or from central Dubai
• The road-transfer time is a priority
• The requested aircraft and schedule can be accommodated
• A suitable FBO and parking position are confirmed
• The journey connects with another requirement at DXB
• The passenger’s hotel, office or residence is closer to the airport

The airport should not be selected solely because it is closest to the city. Slot availability and parking can make DWC or another airport more practical for the complete journey.

Al Maktoum International Airport: DWC#

Al Maktoum International Airport is located in Dubai South and is often practical for passengers travelling to or from:

• Jumeirah Lakes Towers
• Expo City Dubai
• Dubai South
• Jebel Ali
• Palm Jebel Ali
• Southern Dubai residential areas
• Locations along the Dubai–Abu Dhabi corridor

DWC has dedicated private-aviation infrastructure and several FBO options. It may also provide a more suitable operating arrangement where the requested aircraft, parking or schedule cannot be accommodated at DXB.

The airport is farther from Downtown Dubai, so the ground journey must be considered before the itinerary is fixed.

DWC may make sense when:

• The passenger is based in southern Dubai
• The journey begins or ends near Dubai Marina or Jebel Ali
• Private-terminal facilities are preferred
• DXB slot or parking availability does not support the request
• The aircraft is already positioned at DWC
• The itinerary includes Abu Dhabi or another southern destination
• Ground vehicles can be scheduled around the longer road transfer

The UAE AIP publishes DWC as H24 for customs, handling, fuel and security. It also requires ACL clearance and Dubai landing permission.

Sharjah International Airport: SHJ#

Sharjah International Airport can be useful for passengers travelling from Sharjah, Ajman or northern areas of Dubai.

The airport has a dedicated business-aviation FBO, H24 services and no standing slot restriction published by the FBO. Parking, handling and the required authority approval still need to be secured for each movement.

Sharjah may make sense when:

• The passengers are based in Sharjah or Ajman
• The pickup point is in northern Dubai
• DXB or DWC cannot support the preferred schedule
• Suitable aircraft and parking are already available at SHJ
• The road journey can avoid peak Dubai–Sharjah traffic
• The itinerary continues towards the Northern Emirates

Road congestion is the main passenger-planning consideration. A departure from Sharjah may be operationally workable but inconvenient when the passenger is travelling from Downtown Dubai during a peak traffic period.

The airport and chauffeur schedule should therefore be planned together.

Al Bateen Executive Airport: AZI#

Al Bateen Executive Airport is located in Abu Dhabi and should not be presented as a routine substitute for a Dubai airport.

It becomes relevant when:

• The passenger’s actual destination is Abu Dhabi
• The itinerary includes meetings in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi
• Passengers are staying on Abu Dhabi Island
• The journey involves government, diplomatic or corporate activity in Abu Dhabi
• The aircraft is positioned at Al Bateen
• A multi-sector programme begins in one emirate and ends in another

Al Bateen is dedicated to business aviation and operates around the clock. The airport is certified for aircraft up to Aerodrome Reference Code 4D, with larger aircraft requiring prior airport approval.

Where passengers need Dubai only, DWC will normally provide a shorter road transfer than Al Bateen.

Departure formalities for a private charter from Dubai#

Using a private terminal or FBO can provide a more focused passenger process, but it does not remove immigration, customs, security or documentation requirements.
