X-wind (also known as crosswind) is a term used to describe a wind that is blowing perpendicular to the direction of travel of an aircraft. A crosswind can affect the stability and handling of an aircraft during takeoff, landing, and in-flight, and pilots must be trained to compensate for it. X-wind component is also expressed as a numeric value indicating the strength of the crosswind in relation to the aircraft's direction of travel.
