Vito Gomes is the CEO of Aviation Services Management (ASM). It is a leading provider of comprehensive aviation services. The company is headquartered in Dubai. In this interview, he talks about the future of his company. He offers valuable advice for those pursuing a career in business aviation.
What was your career path to your current role?
I began my aviation journey in the 1980s. I worked as a trainee with Air Portugal. There, I learned the basics of airline operations. Soon after, in 1985, I joined Abu Dhabi International Airport, focusing on cargo, ground, and passenger handling. This period proved essential, giving me firsthand experience with the complexities of airline operations and revealing the gaps between airlines, operators, and service providers.
In 1994, I took on the challenge of setting up an airline from scratch in Abu Dhabi. I drafted manuals, organized operations, and led the airline toward success. This role deepened my understanding of the industry and underscored the service gaps I had observed earlier. This insight ultimately inspired me to found ASM in 1998 to bridge those gaps.
Since then, ASM has grown from a startup into a global leader in comprehensive aviation services. This growth reflects our commitment, innovation, and the trust we’ve earned from clients worldwide. Today, ASM offers a broad range of services, including aviation fueling, flight planning, ground handling, permits and navigation, private jet charters, and concierge services.
Looking back on my journey from trainee to ASM’s leader, I see how each step shaped my career and solidified ASM’s mission and vision. Every experience has been crucial in defining the path forward for ASM, strengthening our foundation in the aviation industry.
