As the vaccination drive continues, airports are set to reopen in the coming months across the globe. The stay-at-home orders will eventually recede, but getting where you need or want to be is set to change dramatically.
Airlines are still cutting flights for the foreseeable future. It’s unclear when networks and frequency will be restored. However, a somber prognosis suggests that full commercial aviation recovery might not occur until the distant 2024.
Looking back, before the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, millions of people flew daily on commercial airlines. They traveled to fulfill their business commitments, visit their families, or go on long-awaited vacations.
Navigating the New Normal
In 2021, as we glance shortly, expectations rise on the hope of the virus being controlled. People hope to take off their masks and have the travelling experience as normal. However, global travellers are still likely to worry about getting sick when they travel. This concern will remain for a while longer. Social distancing and smaller groups of people will be paramount. Individual travel will also be important, as more and more people consider flying by private charter.
Meantime, private travelers are seeking safety assurance, as an added value to the privilege of charter flight. Travelers eagerly await a sort of golden ticket to any destination. This ticket serves as a guard and a solid resolution to the wide range of restrictions experienced during the pandemic.
A digital document to prove travel eligibility received positive feedback from business travellers. It ensures they are entirely protected against Covid-19. A digital travel pass is meant to ease the restrictions and give a way through the post-pandemic travel recovery.
IATA’s COVID-19 Travel Pass
Global airline industry organisation – IATA launched a pilot version of the COVID-19 travel pass earlier this year. The digital system combines COVID test results and vaccine certificates. It aims to help facilitate international travel. Additionally, it lays a path to a normal future.
The IATA has designed a digital health pass that will support the safe reopening of borders. According to the IATA source, this mobile app encompasses information required by many authorities. The pass enables authorized labs and test centres to securely share test and vaccination certificates with passengers. Passengers can then create a digital passport and share testing or vaccination certificates with airlines and authorities to facilitate travel. The Travel Pass contains the required information. It verifies if a passenger is eligible to undertake their travel journey.
GCC Region
In the GCC region, IATA has recently partnered with Etihad Airways, Emirates, and Qatar Airways. They aim to make provisional tests ahead of the possible implementation of this technology for the airlines’ passengers.
Etihad offered guests a pass on selected flights from Abu Dhabi in the first quarter of 2021. Emirates launched the pass for customers travelling on select destinations from Dubai in April. While Qatar Airways has begun trials of the app on its Doha-Istanbul route.
Air New Zealand, Rwanda, and Malaysia Airlines plan to trial the IATA Travel Pass. Singapore Airlines, Air Baltic, Virgin, and Hong Kong Airlines will also participate in the trial. They will test it on selected routes.
While many airlines conduct Travel pass testing, it is not considered as an exclusive asset of commercial aviation. The travel pass is expected to be an airport facility. It will enhance air operations as a whole in the particular airport. It is meant to improve the travel experience for any traveller, including business aviators.
The travel pass is required to facilitate advanced trip requirements. These include COVID testing and uploading the vaccination card with the traveller’s documents. In combination with the private jet flight, it can take you to destinations not flown by commercial airlines. It is seen as an ultimate golden ticket to any destination in the post-pandemic world.
The IATA travel pass is expected to roll out soon. All private jet travellers are looking to have even more smooth and safe trips ahead.
